Gestational Diabetes While you are pregnant, you need to generate greater amounts of insulin in order to breakdown the sugar, glucose, in your bloodstream and create energy from it. When your pancreas cannot create sufficient amounts of insulin to keep up with the level of glucose in your blood you get Gestational Diabetes. This occurs in 4% of pregnancies. The symptoms of gestational diabetes are very similar to pregnancy symptoms, therefore, your doctor will need to give you a glucose test to find out whether or not you have gestational diabetes. The glucose test is generally given sometime between your 24-28th week.
